General objectives
- To promote knowledge about the European Union and its history;
- Promote innovative training on European policies for Cultural Heritage, in particular in the Mediterranean area;
- Create a training offer that fosters dialogue between the academic world, society and policy makers;
- To generate knowledge and develop skills that will strengthen research in European policies for Cultural Heritage.
Specific objectives
- Promote knowledge on the History of the European Union
- Recognize the reasons for the integration of Portugal in the group of Euro-Mediterranean countries and analyse its role in the framework of the European Union initiatives for the Mediterranean Region
- Identify the challenges and opportunities for cultural heritage in the framework of European policies for the Mediterranean, in the field of integration, intercultural dialogue, cooperation and partnerships for sustainable development
- Study the History of the Mediterranean in the long term;
- Define and discuss the concept of “Mediterranean Cultural Heritage”;
- Acquire basic concepts on protection and management of Cultural Heritage;
- Know and explore the policies and strategies of the European Union for the Euro-Mediterranean region (Euromed, UfM, European neighbourhood policy, cohesion policy and European integration, migration policy);
- Discuss migration crisis in the Mediterranean and Human Rights;
- Recognising European values and discussing European multiculturalism;
- Recognise the main European organisations and institutions responsible for cultural heritage protection policies;
- Know the European legislation for cultural heritage;
- Explore and analyse the strategies and initiatives of the European Union in the field of cultural heritage;
- Recognise the European funding programmes in the field of cultural heritage;
- Analyse reports produced by European Union bodies on cultural heritage;
- Analyse concrete case studies focused on the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, in the Mediterranean region;
- Apply research methods and develop scientific writing skills.
